The Big MLM Test Round is now complete and all results are in!!
With the help of others in the aromatherapy community, we raised the money to have 14 different oils and blends tested from the two leading MLM companies – doTERRA and Young Living. Below are the results of all the tests. I’m VERY happy to say that all remaining samples have passed testing! (doTERRA’s Deep Blue and OnGuard did not and are talked about in my previous blog posts)

Young Living:

As a reminder, you can find all tests performed to date, for all companies, on the Test Reports page.

July 7, 2018 at 10:02 pmMiles, Do you think the passing of Gary Young will bring about positive or negative changes within the company?
Miles J says
July 12, 2018 at 4:18 amI don’t think it will impact things much because over the last several years they put in place a large executive team that made most of the operating decisions anyway…guess we’ll have to wait and see.

February 11, 2018 at 1:57 pmDo you have plans on conducting more testing? And thank you for all you’ve done already!
Miles J says
February 22, 2018 at 4:08 pmYes absolutely! (I volunteer all my time for this so only able to give it a little of my attention at the moment with everything else going on.)

February 25, 2018 at 3:53 amThank you for volunteering Miles! I am really interested in helping fund the next batch of tests. Keep up the great and very transparent work.

June 21, 2017 at 9:51 pmThanks, Miles, for the work you do. I prefer to know if the things I am using are quality products. What I appreciate most is that you are testing more than just one product. While the cinnamon bark IS a big deal for YL (and the conflict with the commitment to quality vs. the actual quality), and the false marketing of Deep Blue on DoTerra’s part, it is good to know that other oils are “clean” – that you’re not ONLY fixated on the one oil that’s come up “dirty”. I want to have quality oils in my home and my family life, and as you test them, I am much more confident in my purchases.

September 8, 2017 at 6:04 amI’m not sure how to read the test results. What are all the chemical compounds?… Is it just the conclusion that assures us whether it’s contaminated or not?
Maddie says
May 14, 2017 at 5:26 amIs YL’s cinnamon still adulterated? And their Thieves, having cinnamon?

May 1, 2017 at 12:02 pmI only just discovered this blog while searching for something else.
After reading the contents I am really sad that people still believe and
support what the con artists in these multi level companies tell them.
Particularly since there have been numerous articles on something called
“internet sites” for years. It is a sad reflection on humanity now that
billions of people seem to think they can get the truth from blog and
similar social media sites and are too lazy to do internet searches. The
files on my site and others have been online for around 15 years and
there has been no attempt by Gary Young or the company to sue us. That
is because we can prove everything we say in court if necessary.
An Internet search on Young Living and doterra would bring up numerous
articles about the way these companies operate. They are liars plain and
simple. They care nothing about peoples health and safety, the ONLY
driving force is sales at any cost. They even employ top marketing
companies to create their information in such a way that gullible people
fall for it.
It was only after distributors of these companies started to claim that
essential oils could cure Ebola that the FDA were forced to step in and
lay down the law. The FDA had been warned for years about the illegal
activities of these companies but the FDA did absolutely nothing.
As to the purity of the oils, there was a video floating around for a
couple of years where an analytical chemist gives a court deposition
that Gary Young had no interest in quality. Unfortunately that video
gets taken down as fast as it is uploaded due to threats from their
lawyers.
Please read the articles on my site. I am retired and now sell nothing
and therefore I can’t be accused of just wanting to promote my services.

October 9, 2016 at 6:12 pmThank you so much for doing this work, Miles. I have a good friend selling DoTerra oils and while I want to support her, I have always remained very skeptical about the purity in any oils on the market, so I was not wanting to use them for my family. As long as you are testing the oils and getting good results, I can go here first before purchasing anything. This is a wonderful way to keep these companies accountable for what they claim!! Of course there is no way to stop them from adulterating subsequent batches of the oils AFTER you have them tested!

June 24, 2016 at 4:29 amThanks for doing these tests Miles. It is great that people are doing these test to help consumers be educated.
Tracy Rickel says
June 23, 2016 at 5:37 pmDid the DeepBlue and OnGuard fail due to the labeling error, that was found by an outside testing source?
If I remember correctly, the above mentioned error was an omission of an essential oil found within the products, YlangYlang in the DP and Cinnamon Leaf in the OnGuard, not any kind of synthetic or adulteration error.
FYI: If these were the issues that caused them to “Fail” your testing, they have been acknowledged and corrected by doTERRA.
Grant says
June 24, 2016 at 7:08 pmThey have been acknowledged but they have not been corrected. The labels still don’t list the Ylang-Ylang and Cinnamon Leaf. Yes, the website has been updated but bottles are still being sold and shipped with no mention of the missing ingredients. So no, it has not been corrected yet.

February 2, 2017 at 5:17 pmI have a bottle of doTERRA Deep Blue and On Guard and Ylang Ylang and Cinnamon are on the appropriate label. Thanks
Donna says
June 23, 2016 at 3:24 pmWhen you say “doTERRA’s Deep Blue and OnGuard did not” (pass), it sounds like they had adulterated/ synthetic ingredients (at least that’s what I would understand that to mean), when in fact there was an ingredient missing on the label. The oils themselves were found to be completely pure. Would you mind editing your blog title for clarity? Thanks.
Miles J says
June 24, 2016 at 6:52 pmNo I will not. They failed, whether the missing oils were pure or not is not the point. I explain this in my blog. People can make their own choices.
Kristen says
July 15, 2016 at 5:35 amI agree with you not editing it. Enabling fraudulent activity shows much, much more than an ingredient in the oil. It shows morals.
Diane says
August 25, 2016 at 2:58 pmI totally agree with you on this. I have seen for quite some time that dōTERRA does not understand the safety issues of allergies, sensitivities, etc. This falls into that category. For those who have allergies & sensitivities we live & die by labels & expect them to be correct.

June 23, 2016 at 12:32 pmSo what does YL have equivalent of Deep Blue in Dt?
Shannan says
June 23, 2016 at 2:44 pmPanAway, Deep Relief, or Relieve It are the best equivalents in YL.
JoAnn says
June 23, 2016 at 4:28 pmI think Panaway, but you should ask a YL high level officer.
